Board your Rex Airlines flight from Brisbane and enjoy sweeping aerial views over the Darling Downs as you travel westward into Outback Queensland. Arriving in Charleville, you will be welcomed by your Savannah Guides Operator driver and host. Explore Charleville on a guided town tour before checking into your accommodation.

This evening, visit the Charleville Cosmos Centre for the Outback Stargazing Tour. See an amazing night sky brought into focus through powerful Meade telescopes and listen to captivating stories from the experienced guides.

Start your morning at the Charleville Date Farm, where a local farmer’s vision has become a thriving and environmentally sustainable enterprise. Learn how dates are grown in Outback conditions using reclaimed water before enjoying a homemade date loaf for morning tea.

Travelling west, we arrive at Lake Houdraman, a beautiful expanse of water set amongst shady gum trees. Enjoy a guided station tour and lunch. Following lunch, enjoy a guided tour of Quilpie, including St Finbarr’s Church and its stunning Opal Altar. Arrive at your accommodation and end the day with a sunset tour of nearby red sandhills, where the colours of the Outback come alive, before enjoying a gourmet paddock-to-plate dinner under the Outback sky. 

This morning, visit the historic Noccundra Hotel before crossing into Outback New South Wales via Warri Gate. We travel through the eastern reaches of Sturt National Park, across gibber plains and “jump-up” country, arriving in Tibooburra.

The town is known for its ancient granite boulders, remnants of a 410-million-year-old underground dome. Explore the National Park Interpretive Centre and Courthouse Museum. 

Travel through Sturt National Park to Cameron Corner, where the borders of Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales meet. See the Strzelecki Desert, characterised by extensive red dune fields and home to the Dusky Hopping Mouse.

Pass by vast cattle stations before travelling through the heart of the oil and gas fields to Innamincka, located on the banks of Cooper Creek. 

This morning, visit the heritage-listed Burke & Wills Dig Tree, an enduring reminder of the pioneering spirit and harsh realities of the Outback. While there, you’ll have the opportunity to stroll the boardwalk and spot local birdlife.

We then follow the Strzelecki Desert through floodplains, sand dunes and gibber country. Travel through vast stations, including Arrabury, before calling into Deon’s Lookout, the famous Betoota Hotel and the Dreamtime Serpent Indigenous artwork en route to Birdsville.

Tonight, yarn with the locals and enjoy dinner at the iconic Birdsville Hotel. 

This morning, visit the Wirrarri Centre to view works by local Indigenous artists and gain insight into the stories and culture of the region. Enjoy a short stroll to the Birdsville Billabong, a tranquil wetland teeming with birdlife, fish and yabbies.

Stand on the well-known Birdsville Racetrack, one of Australia’s most remote and legendary racing venues, and explore the Inland Hospital and Royal Hotel ruins. As evening falls, head to Big Red Sand Dune, a 40-metre-high dune on the edge of the Simpson Desert, to experience an unforgettable Outback sunset. 

Leaving Birdsville this morning, we visit the Carcory Ruins, a heritage-listed homestead built in 1877 and abandoned after years of drought. Explore the remote town of Bedourie, located on a sand dune overlooking the Eyre Creek floodplain.

See the Royal Hotel, built in the 1880s from adobe bricks and still remarkably preserved. Take in spectacular views from the Vaughan Johnson Lookout.

In Boulia, visit the Min Min Encounter, a tribute to the mysterious Min Min Light phenomenon. Explore the Stonehouse Museum, one of the first homes built in Western Queensland, and view the impressive Marine Reptile Fossil exhibit. 

Follow the spectacular scenic drive between Boulia and Winton, stopping at Cawnpore Lookout to admire the stark flat-topped beauty of the Lillyvale Hills. Visit the Middleton Hotel, a reminder of the Cobb & Co. era.

Uncover the story behind the song that lives in the heart of all Australians at Winton’s Waltzing Matilda Centre. This afternoon, visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs for a guided tour of the Laboratory, Collection Room and Dinosaur Canyon.

End the day with a memorable sunset barbecue overlooking the vast plains where dinosaurs once roamed. 

Departing Winton, we follow the Matilda Way east to Longreach and enjoy a relaxed morning exploring the town. After lunch, discover the fascinating galleries of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and hear inspiring stories of Australia’s pioneering heroes.

This evening, visit the Qantas Founders Museum for the entertaining and informative Luminescent Sound & Light Show, bringing the 100-year story of Qantas to life. Afterwards, enjoy an exclusive dinner surrounded by aviation history. 

This morning, board the heritage 2000-class Rail Motors for the journey to Ilfracombe. Explore the unique attractions of the “Hub of the West”, including the Wellshot Centre and Machinery Mile, before enjoying lunch at the famous Wellshot Hotel.

Late this afternoon, join the Drover’s Sunset Cruise. Relax with onboard nibbles as you watch a magnificent Outback sunset unfold across the Thomson River. Enjoy live entertainment and a two-course camp oven-themed dinner under the stars at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show.
